Green Buyer’s Guide
Ten years ago, the Green Clean Institute adopted a unique and smart approach to evaluating proposed Green products, equipment, and services. Instead yet another set of duplicated test, the Green Clean Institute set up the “Truth in Labeling” system built on ten critical points.
The Truth in Labeling system is understood as a “Consumer Confidence” by taking the place of a consumer to ask critical questions that validates the claims and advertising of the manufacturer or service.
Honestly! Anyone can buy or grab a eco-friendly logo and post it on their product or service. This is worse than meaningless. They are casual but overt lies. Exaggerated claims are very common and there is little regulatory oversight for loosely-proven claims.
The ten points for the GCI Green Product Certification are:
Truth in Advertising
Natural, Organic, or Biodegradable
Recycled Content or Packaging
Fragrance and Coloring
pH Range
Known Dangerous Ingredients
Concentrates or Source Reduction
Sustainable attributes
Euthrophication of water ways
Incidental Green or Sustainable values.
We are fairly confident that many Green products have done a great job and deserve to be recognized by an independent, third-party like the Green Clean Institute. We invite companies with Green and sustainable products and services to download the GCI Green Product certification guide and consider our federal trademark logo to increase the consumer perspective of their offers.
