Sick Building Syndrome

While many people have been affected by a toxic or semi-toxic building, most people believe that the problem is a headache, tired spell, or eye fatigue. The unasked question is whether these symptom happen as regularly as they do at the workplace.

The actual problem may not be you or a bad night’s sleep.

If we could related the polluted air to water, it would be much easier to isolate and determine the the true cause adversely affected people in the community. We know that particles, like sand, dirt, and vegetation pieces can foul the water. Sewage upstream can make the water fetid or foul. If there is a chemical dump into the river, everyone downstream are in threat of their health and life.

If you appreciate the quality and purity of your water, you should be even more impressed with the quality of the air you are breathing. We are suppose to drink about 2 liters of water a day. The average person breathes 11,000 liters of air in a day. Further, our lungs allow immediate access to bloodstream.

How many things can be wrong with the air? Pathogens spread in the air, particles like mold spores and pollen float in the air, gases known as VOCs permeate the air, and odors spread from all types of things in the building.

All the above items can make you sick or feel lousy. Without a professional IAQ evaluation, the real cause of workplace health issues fall on the person, not on the maintenance of the building.
